2013 Twenty-Eight Eighty Red Wine
Three Rhône varietals – Grenache, Syrah, and Petite Sirah — are grown in our “Backyard” estate vineyard for our signature red wine. To complement our field blend, we added a bit of McGah Vineyard Grenache to lift and focus the fruit with Rutherford Dust textures, as well as Pocai Vineyard Petite Sirah, which offers a bit of concentration and inky depth. The 2013 vintage balances fresh red berries and dark black fruits with a lovely hint of bergamot tea and orange rind. Nicely integrated, ripe tannins carry the ample and nuanced fruit into a clean and pleasing finish. 65% Grenache, 31% Petite Sirah, 4% Syrah
WINEMAKING NOTES The estate fruit was handpicked and co-fermented; 10% whole-cluster. Hand punch-downs added elegance while indigenous yeast preserved sense of place. Pressed to barrel for malolactic fermentation and aged in second turn French Oak, the wines were blended just before bottling.
